I’ve spent my life rooting for the underdog. I was raised to work hard and help those who need a hand.
I come from a small, working class family where, at one point, my mom had to work three jobs to keep a roof over her three kids’ heads.
My parents now own and operate their own construction firm. I proudly worked for the family business for more than ten years, before starting my career in public service.
I’ve served in the Virginia General Assembly as staff for Delegates Brian Moran, Lynwood Lewis and Senator George Barker.
I’ve worked to advance LGBT Rights in this state as Chair of Equality Virginia’s Political Action Committee, on behalf of Democrats across the Commonwealth as President of the Young Democrats of Virginia, and in service to Alexandria as vice chair of the Alcohol Safety Action Program, on the board of Hopkins House and as Vice Chair of Precinct Operations (West End) of the Alexandria Democratic Committee.
I currently work for NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia as the Advocacy and Communications Manager, at our state office in Old Town and live on the West End with my partner, Danny Barefoot, and our cats Jack and Olive.
Working for my parent’s construction company and then working for Alexandria’s state representatives has taught me that our city’s underdogs need more champions.
During these tough economic times, Alexandria is going to have to cut deeper into its budget. We need people there who are going to be willing to fight to protect Alexandria’s priorities.
I promise to never stop being a champion for those who need one the most. It’s how I was raised and it’s what makes me a strong Democrat. I’ll take those same values to City Council.
